Little Johnny is in seventh grade, and he often asks his teacher many questions!
One day, he asked his English teacher, “Why do we ignore some letters in pronunciation, like the letter ‘H’ in words such as ‘hour’ and ‘honour’?”
The teacher replied, “We’re not ignoring them; they’re just considered silent.” Johnny was left even more confused.
During lunch break, the teacher handed him her packed lunch and asked him to heat it up in the cafeteria.
When Johnny returned with the empty container, his teacher exclaimed, “What happened? I told you to HEAT my food, and you’re giving me back an empty container!”
Johnny replied, “But, Madam, I thought the ‘H’ was silent.”
This is dedicated to all English teachers.
