The technology we have today is truly remarkable. We enjoy cutting-edge cell phones, laptops, AirPods, speakers, gaming systems, and just about every gadget imaginable.
However, just a few decades ago, technology looked quite different. If you’re a baby boomer, you might recognize some of the images that follow.
While drive-in movie theaters still exist, they aren’t as common as they were in the 1940s and 1950s. During those decades, couples, families, and singles would gather in cars for a night out at the movies.
Visiting a drive-in today can still evoke a sense of nostalgia. Most drive-ins remain in their original locations, complete with old screens and retro-style concession stands.
These days, you can hear the movie by tuning into a specific station on your car radio. But back then, the audio setup was quite different.
Moviegoers would park next to a metal post rising from the ground, which had two speakers attached to it. You would grab the speaker closest to your window and pull it inside your car to listen to the movie’s sound.
You might laugh, but this was cutting-edge technology for its time! I still enjoy going to the drive-in, and seeing pictures like these takes me back to those wonderful days.
