What do a man who dresses as a dog and googly eyes have in common? They both demonstrate that hobbies can spark joy, connection, and even fame! The stories we’ve compiled today show that every little hobby can make a big impact.

“Hubby made me something to help me with my hobby.”

“I have a pain condition that affects my hands, but I love to crochet. I’ve tried about five or six different sets of ‘ergonomic’ handled hooks, and while some helped a bit, they weren’t great. My husband noticed this and took it upon himself to create a handle that really works for me.”

“Behold! The most magical thing I’ve ever made!”

“It took me exactly seven days and 32 yards of tulle, but I finally finished! I made this entirely from scratch based on a photo I found online that I wanted to recreate. I initially planned to follow a robe pattern from Mood Fabrics, but since I’ve never used a pattern before, I got stressed out once I started. So, I decided to just go for it without any guidance, fueled only by the belief that I could do it.”

My grandmother was always passionate about gardening, but I didn’t truly grasp its significance until one summer I spent with her. She would spend hours tending to her plants, and her garden was a masterpiece. One day, she showed me her “journal.” It wasn’t just notes about plants; it was a diary filled with memories tied to each one. For instance, the rose bush she planted the day my grandfather proposed. That summer, I planted my first flower under her guidance, and to this day, gardening reminds me of her love and the stories she shared.

I had been talking to a girl for a couple of months, and one day, while thinking about her, all the words came together—I wrote my first poem. Since then, I’ve fallen in love with reading and writing poetry; it’s now my preferred art medium. @GKaterle / Reddit

City urges residents to stop slapping googly eyes on statues—guess someone’s getting really into their new hobby!

“Every year I bake a ton of cookies for family and friends. Here are all 2,162 now that Cookie Chaos 2024 is over!”

“Every year, I dedicate the first week of December to Cookie Chaos: a week where I go all out baking cookies to give to family and friends instead of cheap gifts. This year, I made 38 buckets, ten different kinds of cookies, and Italian struffoli. The total cookie count was 2,162, including gluten- and sugar-free options!”

“I’ll doodle your cat!”

“I enjoy making greeting cards and holiday cards using rubber stamps and ink pads, along with the occasional fountain pen drawing and watercolor. I’m a big, burly guy with a beard, and I love seeing my family’s reactions when they open one of my cards.” @GroundsKeeper2 / Reddit

My coworker would bring the most delicious cookies to the office, and I was determined to get the recipe. She always dodged my inquiries, claiming it was a family secret. Then one weekend, she invited me to her home. I was excited, thinking I’d finally uncover the mystery, but instead, I discovered her secret was an obsession with culinary experiments. Her kitchen resembled a science lab—filled with beakers, thermometers, and jars of unusual ingredients. She wasn’t following a family recipe; she was inventing her own! Inspired, I started experimenting in my kitchen, too. While I haven’t matched her skills yet, I’ve had a few successes.

“I wanted to be an animal, so I became a collie!”
Meet Toco, the man who is literally living his dream of becoming a dog! With his ultra-realistic canine costume, he’s turning heads and wagging tails around the world.

“My grandma is 80 years old, and she still does her perfect jobs; if you praise her, she’ll be happy! ❤️”

“It’s all from memory; I don’t use references when I paint these! I spend a lot of time visiting and photographing brutalist buildings, so the overall idea is pretty ingrained in me now. It took some trial and error to refine my technique, but I’ve reached a point where the process feels second nature, and I just go for it :)”

While backpacking in Europe, I stayed at a small hostel run by a woman who spoke over ten languages. She shared that learning languages was her hobby, which began as a way to connect with travelers. Her favorite game was guessing where guests were from based on their accents. One evening, she taught a group of us basic phrases in five different languages, turning it into a hilarious and unforgettable night. Her enthusiasm reminded me of the power of language in bringing people together. Now, I make a point to learn at least a few phrases whenever I visit a new country.

I met a guy, and our relationship quickly developed. He invited me to his house, and when I went to wash my hands in the bathroom, I noticed there was no towel. I opened the cupboard and found a bra. I grabbed it and asked my “boyfriend” what that was about, and he calmly replied, “Just don’t make it dirty; I need to send it to a customer.” It turned out he was making custom bras. I was skeptical at first, but when he showed me the mannequins and his workspace, I felt a bit embarrassed. We eventually parted ways, but it wasn’t because of his work; we just didn’t click.

I’m sobbing: My mom was a big crocheter, so my dad and I left one of her balls of yarn as a tribute on her bench at East Lawn. He just went back today after a few weeks to tend to the site, and someone had used the yarn to knit my mom a scarf. 😭💕😭💕💕

The woman received a ton of hilarious comments:

“How much is the rent? Housing is getting hard to find these days. Do you take pets?” @northernpace / Reddit
