A man walks into a quiet, dimly lit church late one afternoon, looking anxious yet determined. He finds a priest sitting peacefully near the altar and approaches him with hesitation.

“Father, I need to confess… it’s urgent.”

The priest, always ready to guide a lost soul, nods kindly. “Come, my child. Step into the confessional. Unburden your heart.”

The man sighs deeply and begins, “Father, on Monday, I was at my girlfriend’s house. She was there, just the two of us, the house completely empty… and I gave in to temptation.”

The priest raises an eyebrow but remains calm. “Ah, my child. Desire is powerful, but you must learn to resist. Say two Hail Marys, and may your soul be light again.”

The man bites his lip. “But Father… on Tuesday, I went again. This time, my girlfriend had stepped out with her friends. Her sister was the only one at home. And… the house was empty again.”

The priest frowns slightly. “That is troubling. You must stay strong. This time, say eight prayers and reflect on your actions.”

“But it’s not over, Father,” the man says nervously. “On Wednesday, I visited again. Girlfriend was out, sister was out… only her mother was home. Alone. House empty…”

The priest shifts uncomfortably in his seat. “My son, you are walking a dangerous path. You need discipline. Ten prayers—no, twelve!”

The man leans forward, whispering, “On Thursday, I went again… just her aunt was home. Alone. You guessed it—the house was empty.”

Now the priest is visibly sweating. “This is becoming… quite a pattern.”

The man presses on. “Then Friday came. The whole family had gone out for the weekend. Just her grandma was there… and Father… the house was so, so empty.”

The priest is now gripping his rosary like a lifeline, his knuckles white. Beads of sweat run down his forehead.

“And Saturday…” the man gulps, “It was just her dad and me… and the house…”

Before he can finish, there’s an eerie silence from the other side of the booth. The man peeks through the curtain. The priest is gone.

Confused, he walks through the church and finally spots the priest perched high up on the belfry, clutching the bell rope like a terrified cat in a thunderstorm.

“Father!” the man shouts. “What are you doing up there? I haven’t finished!”

The priest yells back, wide-eyed, “I’m not coming down! The two of us alone… and the church is empty?! I’d rather stay safe up here, thank you!”
