As children progress through school, their homework assignments become increasingly complex. Sometimes, even parents need help deciphering the questions! Fortunately, online communities like Reddit and Twitter are filled with users willing to lend a hand.

Recently, several parents shared their children’s perplexing homework assignments on social media, sparking a flurry of responses from users eager to help.

In one instance, a first-grade student was tasked with identifying images that ended with the same sound as a fish’s fin. The options, however, were a hamburger bun, a frog, a jar lid, and a spoon. Reddit users quickly pointed out that the answer didn’t necessarily need to rhyme with “fin,” and that “bun” and “spoon” both ended with the “n” sound.

Another parent was stumped by a kindergarten worksheet that asked for a three-letter word to describe a picture of a rabbit and her bunnies. A kind Reddit user suggested the answer was “pet,” explaining that the worksheet was trying to trick the child by switching the sound of the letter to the end of the word.

A third-grade math problem also left parents scratching their heads. The question asked how many marbles Janell had left after losing some, without providing any numbers. Reddit users debated the answer, with some suggesting it was a trick question and others proposing answers like “she has some left” or “Janell lost her marbles!”

These examples highlight the power of online communities in helping parents and students navigate complex homework assignments.

By sharing their confusion and receiving helpful responses, parents can better support their children’s learning and development.
