Here we have an old-fashioned tool used for making buttons. It’s not in perfect condition. Originally, it would have had an additional handle to assist in opening and closing the mold.

Button molds were historically used to create buttons at home. The mold would be filled with molten metal (often pewter), which would cool and harden into the shape of the button. This particular mold could create several different sizes of buttons.

A Button Maker’s Best Friend

Button molds were especially important in times when buttons were not mass-produced or readily available. They allowed people to create buttons for clothing, accessories, and other items in the comfort of their own homes.

A Glimpse into the Past

Antique button molds, like this one, are now cherished for their historical significance. They represent a time when everyday items were often made by hand rather than purchased from a store. These molds are fascinating relics of a bygone era of craftsmanship and resourcefulness.
