Male friendship has been celebrated for centuries, and we want to take a moment to honor this bond by sharing some stories that highlight this multifaceted phenomenon.

A little bit about friends:
— “Mate, I’m on my way, do you have anything to eat?”
— “Do you want a cheese sandwich?”
— “That’s fine!”
— “Then buy some cheese and bread.” © VBerezovskiy / Pikabu

I remember getting into a fight with my friend on the playground back in third grade. While we were waiting outside the principal’s office, we decided to tell him we were just joking around and that the teachers didn’t know what they were talking about. Surprisingly, he bought it. Once, my friend and I both parked our cars and met at a museum. His hands were full, but he waved at me with his foot. I waved my foot back, thinking it was some sort of greeting. He burst out laughing and explained he was just trying to get a rock out of his shoe. Now, every time I see him, we both wave our feet at each other as a quirky way to say hello. © mrawesomesword / Reddit

Over the past year, I’ve lost a lot of weight and changed my appearance. People around me constantly ask how I did it and what my secret is. I smile and tell them that it’s all about eating less junk food and exercising. But the truth is, I simply have no money. A friend called me one Saturday morning, asking for help to tow his car from a neighboring town (40 miles away). He had stalled while visiting his mother-in-law. Instantly, my lazy Saturday morning instincts kicked in, and I started thinking of excuses to avoid going. But then I remembered that he had towed my car at least twice, taught me how to parallel park, and introduced me to the profession in which I’ve been thriving for 14 years. We even cried and embraced when he welcomed his long-awaited daughter into the world. So, I hopped in my car and drove to help him. © Aleksandr.Kim / Pikabu

I had a friend who submitted my number to all sorts of text message services that I couldn’t unsubscribe from. This sparked a 3-month-long prank war, where the only rule was that it shouldn’t be too costly for the recipient. At one point, I posted numerous ads in a local marketplace, claiming I was selling a cheap laptop and iPhone, and included his number. He received over 300 calls on the first night. After that, we finally made peace. © maarup / Reddit

The most heartfelt words I’ve ever heard came from a friend during a tough time at work. He said, “Do what you think is best, and if it doesn’t work out, there’s always room for you in my one-bedroom.” © Overheard / Ideer

I’ve been scammed by my friend time and again. He owns a small café with fantastic food, and I visit him every week. Yet every week, he tries to cheat me on the bill. I know I ate about $30 worth of food, but he’ll say, “$20, bro.” It’s a running joke at this point. © RiskEverything / Pikabu

One night, I stayed over at a friend’s place after a night out. I was lying on the floor next to his bed, drifting into a pleasant drunken sleep when he suddenly sat up and shouted at the top of his lungs, “Avenge me!!!” © AdmanUK / Reddit

In a classic prank, I snuck into a friend’s apartment and put a chicken bouillon cube in his shower head. For an entire week, he couldn’t figure out why he smelled like chicken ramen noodles. © FictionalNape / Reddit

My friend and I once wrote a “letter to the future.” We promised each other we wouldn’t open it until five years later. Recently, I stumbled upon the letter, opened it, and couldn’t help but cry. An excerpt read, “If we’re reading this together now, then we’re the friends you’d expect to find. If you’re reading this alone, it means I’m gone. But remember, nothing but the end of life will break our friendship.” I read this letter alone, as my friend passed away a year ago. © Overheard / Ideer

It was nighttime when I was asleep, and my friend called, saying, “Pick me up; I’ve sent you the coordinates.” It turned out he was somewhere in the woods. I was scared but went anyway. When I arrived, there he was, standing in the headlights, all dirty, smiling, and waving, “Let’s go.” I grabbed a flashlight and an axe and followed him. It turned out he had decided to go blueberry picking at night before someone else could get them! My friend may be a bit eccentric, but he’s incredibly loyal. Not everyone would call you to share blueberries in the dark. © Overheard / Ideer

Once, when I was a child, the door to our house broke, trapping us inside. We lived on the second floor, and I sat by the window feeling despondent. Suddenly, my friend climbed in through the window, leaving me dumbfounded. I couldn’t comprehend how he got in! It turned out he had spent half the day crafting a ladder out of an old fence so I could join them outside. © Overheard / Ideer

My husband’s friend gave him an iPhone for his birthday. They had been struggling financially for a few years, and just when hope was starting to fade, my husband finally found an investor for their big project. Instead of just sharing a single cheeseburger for two on his birthday, he received this heartfelt gift along with many warm words! © Overheard / Ideer

A couple of days ago, I had an asthma attack. You’re supposed to carry your inhaler with you, but I had everything except it. My boyfriend rushed to the pharmacy, but it was closed. I was deeply touched when his best friend came straight away and waited in the car under our windows, ready to help if needed. Thanks to this incredible man, I am alive, and he brought me an inhaler. © Overheard / Ideer

One of my friends is an enormous Harry Potter fan. Like many fans, he’s frustrated that he hasn’t received a letter from Hogwarts yet. Recently, he turned 30, and my friends and I decided to chip in and buy him a ticket to the…buy him a ticket to the UK so he could visit the Harry Potter Museum. We presented it to him as if it were a letter from Hogwarts, complete with all sorts of magical goodies. I’ve never seen him so happy before. © Chamber 6 / VK
