In a striking move that has sent ripples through international relations, one of Norway’s largest oil and shipping companies, Haltbakk Bunkers, has announced it will cut off all fuel supplies to the U.S. military. This decision comes in the wake of a controversial exchange between former President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, which many have interpreted as disrespectful to Ukraine’s leadership during a critical time.

The company took to Facebook to express its outrage, although the post was later deleted due to overwhelming traffic. In their statement, Haltbakk Bunkers did not hold back, declaring, “We have today been witnesses to the biggest shitshow ever presented ‘live on TV’ by the current American president and his vice president.” They commended President Zelensky for his composure and restraint amid what they described as a “backstabbing TV show” orchestrated by the U.S. government. Their words reflected a deep disappointment in the American leadership’s handling of the situation, which they felt undermined Ukraine’s struggle for sovereignty.

As a direct consequence of this perceived slight, Haltbakk Bunkers announced an immediate cessation of fuel provisions to American forces operating in Norway and to any U.S. Navy vessels calling at Norwegian ports. They further urged other Norwegians and Europeans to follow suit, framing their decision as an act of solidarity with Ukraine.

This unprecedented action raises significant questions about the implications for U.S.-Norway relations and the broader geopolitical landscape. With tensions surrounding Ukraine and its allies remaining high, the stance taken by Haltbakk Bunkers highlights the potential for private enterprises to take bold positions on international issues, challenging traditional diplomatic norms. The world is watching closely as this situation unfolds, curious about how it might influence future interactions between nations and the role of corporate entities in global politics.
